Modules

Training Modules

These are our training modules for both Level 2 and Level 3. Level 2 Modules have to have been completed in order for a candidate to begin Level 3.

The Fundamentals - Certificate in Fitness Instructing (gym based exercise):

The first module will cover basic anatomy and physiology, giving all the knowledge that a gym instructor needs. You will develop an understanding of the skeleton, muscles and muscle actions, cardiovascular respiratory, nervous and energy systems, and the effects of exercise on these systems in healthy adults.

a) Health and Safety

In this module you with learn how to maintain health, safety and welfare in a variety of fitness environments. It covers potential emergencies and procedures, and the importance of maintaining safety whilst controlling risk. You will also be introduced to the benefits of healthy eating and exercise, contraindications for adults and special populations, as well as the safe guarding of children and vulnerable adults.

b) Supporting the Client and Instructing Exercise

You will learn how to plan, prepare, instruct, correct, supervise and close safe and effective gym-based exercises for healthy adult groups, individual older adults, ante- and post- natal women, and disabled clients. This module explores client screening, the use of machinery, identifying barriers to exercise, and providing ongoing client support.

During Module 3, you will complete the required paperwork and undertake the necessary assessment to pass your Level 2 Gym Instructor award.

REPs Level 2

The Personal Trainer - Certificate in Personal Training:

Building on Module 1, this unit will extend your understanding of Anatomy and Physiology to cover the circulatory, muscular skeletal, nervous, endocrine and energy systems, as well as posture and core stability, in relation to exercise.

Building on Module 2, this unit will enable you to design, manage, deliver, adapt and review personal training programmes for healthy adults, individual older adults, disabled clients, and ante- and post-natal women.


a) Nutrition

Discovering the principles of nutrition, and how this relates to supporting your clients’ goals as part of an exercise programme, you will learn the key guidelines of nutrition and how to provide nutritional advice. You will be taught how to collect, use and analyse nutritional information to set goals with your client.

b) Paperwork and Practice Teaching

By this point you will already have learnt how to adapt and instruct exercise during a personal training session, and how to bring it to a close, as well as how to meet your clients’ needs and how to review the session while reflecting upon the programmes goals. You will now experience practical teaching and undertake the necessary assessment required for your Level 3 award.

REPs Level 2

FREE Additional Training Modules (continued)

In addition to the standard nationally accredited units for the L3 Certificate in Personal Training, our additional and modules are outlined below. Our FREE additional units will ensure you have the most relevant and advantageous skillsets. Please click a box for more information:

This unit will introduce you to musicality, the importance of tempo for a workout, and will cover some basic exercise to music concepts. The second day will introduce you to circuits and teach you how to use these to enhance a workout.


This unit will provide you with the MTX qualification to teach group Indoor Cycling classes at foundation and advanced level. When combined with your PT or Gym Instructor award, this certification will enable you to teach classes in a gym environment. The principles of this exercise trend can also be incorporated into personal training sessions.


This unit will introduce you to the basic principles and moves of the Pilates technique, helping you to understand how and when to use them, to enhance a personal training programme.


This unit will provide you with the MTX qualification to teach Push and Lift. The certification for this group stength workout, which utilises plates and bars, will enable you to teach classes in a gym environment when presented with your PT or Gym Instructor award. The principles of this exercise trend can also be incorporated into personal training sessions.


This unit will provide you with the understanding of teaching Bootcamp training and how to use different environments to enhance a workout session.


This unit will provide you with the MTX qualification to teach on the Stability Ball. When presented with your PT or Gym Instructor award, this certification will enable you to teach classes in a gym environment. The principles of these exercise trends can also be incorporated into personal training sessions.


DISC communication training will introduce you to the four behavioural types that will define your customers; Dominant and Direct, Interactive and Influencing, Smooth and Steady, and Cautious and Conforming. You will learn how to recognise these behavioural types, their traits and natural conflictors, and understand the most effective way to communicate well with each group in order to build rapport, maintain relationships and retain clients with the outcome of maximising your profits.

The remainder of the unit will provide you with the required knowledge to set up your own business, understand financial and company administration, and provide you with helpful information on cost cutting and profit making as a self-employed individual.


This unit will help you to establish your own brand, and assist you in selling yourself as a business. We will help you to prepare budgets and develop realistic marketing and business plans, as well as encouraging you to consider both opportunities and obstacles in your local market.


This practical unit is designed to allow you to practise your PT skills, following your final assessment, on real people under supervision from your tutors.
